I’d be lost without my smartphone. On my way to work, I stay up to date with current events via news apps. I’m constantly on WhatsApp, Facebook and Spotify throughout the day. In the evening, I watch catch-up TV on Swisscom TV or relax over a good book, naturally digitally on my e-reader. And I like nothing more than going to the cinema on a rainy Sunday.

«Good morning smartphone!»

Being a digital native means I’m rarely without my smartphone. Podcasts, newsletters and push notifications keep me up to date – major media brands such as Tagesschau, 20 Minuten and the NZZ. I even conduct most of my private daily business on my smartphone: calendar, online banking adapter, timetable? There is an app! On days when the weather is bad, I like picking up a book, a magazine or the remote.

I’m never giving up my smartphone – listening to my favourite music on the way to work or reading the latest news in the app have become a morning ritual. I virtually only watch catch-up TV.

Once at the agency, I make sure I don’t miss out on the most important industry news (newsletters). Later at home, I often switch on the radio via the Swisscom TV box or watch two episodes of the Simpsons. I go to the cinema at the latest when a new action-packed James Bond movie hits the screens.

Whether talking on the phone for hours, chatting on WhatsApp, catching up on the news, shopping online, streaming music, online banking, transferring money with TWINT or finding a restaurant, my smartphone is rarely out of reach and I can’t imagine life without it. Being a commuter and a cyclist, I’m generally very much aware of outdoor advertising. Netflix is usually flickering across the screen in the evening. Except on the weekend that is, when it’s documentaries or reading my Kindle by the lake or watching Tatort on the sofa.

I’m still a big fan of reading the paper versions of publications. Whether it’s relaxing on a Sunday (preferably on the balcony in summer) with the Sunday paper or winding down in the evening with a book. I really enjoy watching an exciting film on TV, and thanks to Swisscom TV with replay, whenever I want. Since I don’t have far to go to get to work, I’m rarely exposed to billboard advertising. I tend not to listen to the radio much, as I prefer choosing my own music.

Stets an meiner Seite: mein Smartphone!

Mornings, on the way to work, I listen to music to escape the hustle and bustle of public transport and start the day relaxed. While doing so, I check the latest news, make plans for after work or the weekend, or just go through a few photos on Instagram. In my spare time, I watch the latest series on Netflix. But when it comes to magazines and especially books, I’m a traditionalist and prefer the good old paper versions.

It wakes me in the morning, keeps me up to date with what’s going on in the world, is my encyclopaedia, my mailbox, let’s me mess about on social networks (or modern-day village wells as I call them), is my camera and my memory. I deliberately tend to stay offline on holiday and on the weekends. I listen to conventional radio (SRF3) every morning and online radio while I’m at work.
